Inclusion Teaming offers courses and practice for TWO programs:

1. Social Communication Diversity Program

2. The Roots of Bullying Behavior Program

1. Social Communication Diversity Program - Courses
The Courses Include Instruction and Multiple Opportunities for Practice

Inclusion Teaming offers courses on social skill diversity arising from
autism, attention deficit, and learning disabilities.  The courses prepare
students with social skill differences (challenges/disabilities) and those
with traditional social skills (“typical” peers) for improved
communications.  The courses demonstrate to students that
understanding how to work with the social communication diversity
among themselves is critical for improving transitions to schools, colleges,
and workplace settings.

Current research is used to inform students about the differences in
perception and interpretation of information that occur within a particular
disability.  Students explore ways to tap each other’s unique talents for
school and for job success.  Students practice strategies for exchanging
ideas integrated from the course and their own experience.

Students then apply these strategies in real world practice sessions where
they work as a team on community awareness projects.  These Real world
practice projects include talent development, bullying intervention, and
leadership skills.

The
goal of each course is for students to interact effectively with all
members of a team.

The
objectives of each course are to increase students’ ability to:

1.        Identify underlying social skill patterns in self and others
2.        Explain social skill difference effectively when necessary
3.        Self-advocate for what you need to learn, to feel comfortable, and
to be an equal partner in turn taking the expression of ideas
4.        Express ideas in ways that include the diverse patterns of thinking
     among others
5.        Prompt the engagement of quiet team members through advanced
     facilitation skills
6.        Demonstrate ways unique interests and talents can be used for job
     success.

Inclusion Teaming Social Communication Diversity Courses transition
students, with non-traditional social skills and those with traditional social
skills, to the new and rapidly growing world of diverse communicators.
The program serves two kinds of bright students:

A. Bright students with social communication differences who have:
- IEPs
- 504 plans
- Other special education needs
- Unidentified social differences
Students learn effective self-advocacy for school, college, and
employment by being integrated into real world instruction and
practice with “typical” peers.

B. Bright students with traditional social skills who desire:
- Improved understanding of how other bright minds work
- Effective strategies for exchanging ideas with diverse
communicators
- An opportunity to give and learn.

2. The Roots of Bullying Behavior Program
The Course Includes Instruction and Opportunity for Restoration

Instruction on The Roots of Bullying is available to students who have
bullied other students.  Parents, or school personnel, or the juvenile
probation personnel may be interested in this program for youth with
bullying behaviors.

Once the instruction is complete, some students may wish to give back to
the community.  They may be able to participate in our communication
diversity courses, working specifically on projects that increase
community awareness of what students, with all kinds of great minds, can
achieve together. Their application is reviewed by staff and discussed with
their peers in the senior diversity course to which they apply.
